Five illuminated stainless steel banners - 3 steel and enameled sun seats - Market Way, Bilston, Wolverhampton
In March 1995 Chrysalis Arts completed this major public art commission for Wolverhampton Metropolitan Borough Council.
Designed by Kate Maddison of Chrysalis Arts, the scheme was developed in collaboration with the council's technical services department and provides the focal point to the Market Way refurbishment and reflects the civic pride for Bilston's historic enamel and steel industries.

Elements of the Bilston coat of arms were created in steel using traditional forging and repousée techniques, these were mounted onto five stainless steel banners on steel columns surrounding the newly paved Market Way. Each was illuminated with three coloured uplights and two down lights to enhance the effect at night.
Placed between the columns are three semi-circular steel sun seats each with a 6 metre diameter that were inspired by the rising sun, another heraldic reference. They were created with a combination of traditional forging and modern steel fabrication techniques. They feature three sets of 11 screen-printed enameled steel sun discs that 'rise' through the elliptically curved seats.
