Wheels of identity

Interpretation of the school's identity and the subjects it teaches were expressed by pupils of Brigshaw High School in Allerton Bywater, Leeds through a series of workshops led by artists Van Nong and Kate Maddison of Chrysalis Arts.

The pupils worked on 33 master moulds from clay which were then cast in aluminium and set into a series of wheels, the symbol of the school and the local mining industry. The wheels representing subjects were placed at entrances to each of the new school's departments and a wheel with a set of seven aluminium plaques made to represent the school and its role in the local community was located at the main entrance of the school.

The project was funded by donations from friends of the school who collected money following a fire that destroyed most of the original school building.
