Chrysalis Arts was commissioned by Bournville Village Trust to collaborate with Eachus Associates on the regeneration project at Shenley, Birmingham. Artists Kate Maddison and Helen Turner developed artwork around the theme of oak leaves and people. They collaborated with landscape architect Alan Eachus to integrate the artwork into the landscape works.
The artwork was located at key entranceways and created in steel and bronze.
It consists of:
- A set of automatic large double gates set into the archway entrance to the medical centre.
- A single pedestrian gate
- Set of panels either side of the park entrance
- Cast bronze post finials
- Commemorative plaque
The artwork steel combines stylised images of oak leaves portrayed in solid green for summer and skeletal brown for winter with multiple silhouette profiles of different people's heads. The profile images, fabricated using a hand plasma cutting technique have been designed to maximise the effect of silhouette design where each profile head alternates between being represented by a solid steel or a cut out void. The silhouette heads and leaves are particularly effective when seen against the sky or when the sun casts shadows on the surrounding paving.

The artwork steel follows the same proportions as the park railings and is subtly integrated into the overall landscape scheme.
The bronze post finials throughout the scheme and the bronze latch featured on the pedestrian gate are cast from hand carved originals by Fiona Bowley.
The scheme was opened on the 14th May 2004, the commemorative plaque was unveiled by Richard Burden MP.
