Chrysalis was commissioned by Sefton Council to create artwork for Lord Street, Southport as part of the regeneration of the gardens originally designed by Thomas Mawson.
Lord Street is a fine example of the landscape and architecture of the arts and crafts movement and was a great opportunity for Chrysalis Arts to add significant contemporary works to this heritage site.
"The quality of the finished artworks is exceptional and helped to generate very positive
publicity . . . the Council would welcome the opportunity to work again with Chrysalis
Arts," said Alan Lake, Team Leader, Regeneration & Conservation, Sefton Council.
Nautilus is an illuminated water sculpture made from stainless steel, granite sett paving and pebble mosaic and is sited in the North Gardens on Lord Street. The stainless steel Nautilus shell is illuminated at night with subtle coloured LED lighting that changes over time. The sculpture is animated with water that spurts from the Nautilus head, flows out of the Nautilus eye and fans out over the pebble mosaic tentacles.
Artists Kate Maddison and Van Nong designed and led the implementation of the artworks.
