Flag Fiesta

On the 2nd October 2004 an exhibition of the temporary artworks created by placement artists working with local residents, and coordinated by Helen Turner of Chrysalis, were displayed in a marquee outside Hutson Street Community Centre. All workshop participants were invited to the event and local residents were encouraged to attend through posters and flyers distributed locally. Flag making workshops formed a participatory element of the day, which ended with a Celebration Supper for those who took part.

The project introduced the concept of the Living Street to local community groups who enjoyed the opportunity to be creative and were keen to see the finished artworks arrive back at the venues where they were made.

The artists gained valuable experience at planning and running community workshops, and commented:

"The opportunity to be involved in workshops and gain enough experience has enabled me to feel confident to apply for more similar work."

"This was an invaluable experience, once I took the plunge, it was a lot simpler and less daunting than I had supposed."

"Having been given the opportunity by Chrysalis to present workshops with different groups of people, I realised that this is a path I would like to follow. I have since done further workshops in schools."
