As part of the Biennial Festival's Education and Access Programme, Liverpool Biennial of Contemporary Art in partnership with Liverpool Housing Action Trust invited Chrysalis Arts to develop a 'live' public art training project for artists from Merseyside and the North West.
The 'Lighten Up' project was launched with a free two-day training seminar covering the core aspects of professional development and focusing on public art in the context of regeneration and the use of creative techniques for community involvement.

The project enabled six artists - Nicki McCubbing, Eleanor Heath, Susan Leask, David Crawley, Kate Matthews and Lauren Sagar - to undertake paid placements with Chrysalis Arts, combining a collaborative team approach with mentoring support from Rick Faulkner, Leif Strengell and Van Nong. The main outcome of this 'live' training process was the opportunity the placement artists had to engage with local residents in the creation of temporary public art installations at four Liverpool Housing Action Trust sites in Walton, Sefton Park and Everton.
"The artists worked intensively as a team over a three week period, they experienced new situations and gained valuable technical skills. They learned how to plan and deliver a project within a realistic budget and timescale and to respond creatively to a wide range of issues and challenges." Rick Faulkner, Director, Chrysalis Arts
